Dane County Grant for EV Charging Stations Near Multi-Family Housing

posted

The Dane County Office of Energy and Climate Change advises that it still has grant funding for planning and eventually constructing EV charging stations near multi-family housing. A third and final Request for Proposals ("RFP") will be published in March.

Charge Up Dane County, is the effort to expand affordable electric vehicle (EV) charging across the County.  Charge Up is a federally-funded effort to make sure everyone in Dane County has access to affordable EV charging if they want to use it.

Today EVs are a good option for folks who have their own garage – more than 80% of all EV charging happens at home in garages.  But it's harder for renters, especially those in older apartment buildings, to find affordable charging.  Hence this grant.

Under the grant Dane County is identifying sites for EV charging and then working with those sites to plan (and eventually construct) EV charging stations. You can learn more about how it works for site hosts on the County's website. There's even a map where you can see the 50+ sites across the County, including school and municipal lots but also faith communities, nonprofits, multifamily buildings and other businesses, that are already participating.

In the map below the cross-hatched areas indicate priority sites for additional EV charging stations. This includes the multi-family developments near the Sauk Point shopping center, and those along University Avenue.  Please take a look at the map, look at how the program works and think about businesses, multifamily buildings and faith communities that might be interested and tell them about the program.

On this map the green hash areas indicate areas with multifamily housing – those are the areas eligible for a charging location.   (If you go to the interactive map link above you can enter specific addresses to explore more fully.)
