Flooding Update (9-2-2018 at 1pm)

September 2, 2018 1:07 PM

I haven't sent out a flooding update in a few days, but the weather emergency we've been experiencing since August 20th isn't over. City officials are requesting that residents continue to stay tuned to the City's Flooding website and keep sandbags in place. I'll continue to send out major updates, but I do recommend signing up for the City's excellent alerts (available on the City's Flooding website). The forecast for the upcoming week doesn't not look good rain-wise. Below is the City's latest update as of 1pm today.

Flooding Update, Sunday, 9/2 at 1pm

The risk for flash flooding remains high this afternoon and into the evening. Madison residents in areas at risk of flash flooding should be prepared. Sandbag barriers should remain in place and vehicles should not be parked in low-lying areas.

Lake Levels

Lake Monona is at a new historic high, and water flow through the Tenney Dam will be increased today to mitigate the rainfall received last night.

Weather Forecast

The National Weather Service forecasts show more rain today, including a chance of thunderstorms.

Possible Road Closures

Lane closures on North First Street and East Washington Avenue are likely to occur during rainstorms. Other streets may need to be closed in response to flash flooding.

The City of Madison Flooding website has the most current maps for areas at risk of flash flooding and information regarding road and lane closures.  Updates of conditions are shared through the City of Madison Twitter and Facebook accounts, and individuals can sign up to receive email updates on conditions at the flooding website, www.cityofmadison.com/flooding.
