West Side BRT Meeting on 12/3 and Refuse & Recycling Collection Schedule for Thanksgiving

November 23, 2020 8:46 AM

Bus Rapid Transit/West Side Refinements Neighborhood Meeting

Please join us for a virtual neighborhood meeting where we will hear about the planned first phase of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system here in Madison - and in particular, some possible changes to Mineral Point Road and Whitney Way. The meeting will be held on Thursday, December 3, 6:00 p.m. City of Madison Department of Transportation officials will update participants on the progress of the BRT project (the first phase of which will operate between East Towne and West Towne, running through downtown Madison).

Modifications to the Mineral Point Road and Whitney Way corridors will be presented.  For example, the project is considering the creation of bus-only lanes running down the center of the roadway, as opposed to the curbside of the street.  Center-running bus lanes have several advantages, such as allowing for better bicycle accommodations and fostering an improved pedestrian environment.  The creation of center-running bus lanes would also potentially restrict left turns by autos at some intersections on Mineral Point Road.

You can join the virtual meeting using your computer, smartphone, or tablet, or you can listen in via telephone. To receive login information registering at: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_0t1mp5NATpmd-TGTfVuZMw

Refuse & Recycling Collection Schedule for the 2020 Thanksgiving Holiday

There will be no refuse and recycling collection on both Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The drop-off sites will also be closed on these two days.

Below are the directions residents should follow in order to have their trash and recycling collected during the upcoming two-day holiday.

Directions for Residents with a Wednesday and Thursday Trash & Recycling Collection Day
If your trash and recycling are normally collected on Wednesdays and Thursdays by the Streets Division, you should have your carts to the curb by 6:30 am on Wednesday, November 25.

Check your collection schedule calendar to determine if you should have your recycling cart to the curb along with your trash cart.

Carts set out late may not be collected.

Directions for Residents with a Friday and Monday Trash & Recycling Collection Day
If your trash and recycling are normally collected on Fridays and Mondays by the Streets Division, you should have your carts to the curb by 6:30 am on Monday, November 30.

Check your collection schedule calendar to determine if you should have your recycling cart to the curb along with your trash cart.

Carts set out late may not be collected.

Drop-off Site Information
The Streets Division drop-off sites will be closed on Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27.

The sites will re-open on Saturday, November 28 at 9:00 am. This will be the final Saturday the sites will be open in 2020.

Additional Information Regarding Holiday Collections
In order to collect refuse and recycling from two collection districts in a single shift, the Streets Division diverts crews from other services such as leaf collection and large item collection. Therefore, residents anticipating large item collection or leaf collection may experience delays.
