Boards, Commissions, and Committee Meetings

Note: This is not a complete list of meetings for this upcoming week. All meetings and their details can be found here.

  • Common Council: Due to expected heavy snowfall starting later this evening and continuing through Tuesday, this week’s Common Council meeting will be held in virtual format only.  The Common Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 9, at 6:30 p.m. Agenda items include celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day, establishing voting locations for the 2024 spring elections, financing the Phase 1 redevelopment of the Triangle public housing site, and updating salaries for alders.
  • Cancelled Plan Commission Meeting, Monday, January 8, 2024: Due to a technical issue with the City’s system-wide Zoom account, this evening’s Plan Commission meeting must be cancelled. All items that had been scheduled for action by the Plan Commission this evening will automatically be referred to their next regular meeting on Monday, January 22. Our team in the Planning Division is in the midst of reaching out to all applicant teams and making other updates to get the word out. 
  • Board of Public Works: The Board of Public Works meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 10, in virtual format at 4:30 p.m. Agenda items include authorization for additional design engineering services for John Nolen Drive, approving the City of Madison standard specifications for Public Works construction, and approving the plans, specifications, and schedule of assessments for the Lowell Street Assessment District, the East Wilson Street and East Doty Street Assessment District, and the Lake Mendota Drive Assessment District.
  • Board of Park Commissioners: The Board of Park Commissioners meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 10, at the Parks Division Lakeside Offices at 330 East Lakeside Street at 6:30 p.m. Agenda items include the acquisition of property in Districts 12 and 13, an informational presentation regarding current land management and sustainability initiatives, and expanding the sailboat storage area at Warner Park.

Madison Snow Emergency Declared

PARK ON THE EVEN SIDE OF THE STREET TONIGHT

The City of Madison has declared a snow emergency in effect in the downtown snow emergency zone as well as the rest of the City of Madison. This snow emergency will remain in effect until 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 11. Madison residents are asked to remove all vehicles from the street if possible. 

All residents who must park on the street tonight (the evening of January 9, into early morning of January 10) must park their vehicles on the EVEN house numbered side of the street between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. Violations of the alternate side parking rules are punishable by a fine of $60.00 throughout the entire City of Madison. Violators may also be towed. If towed, an additional $115.00 is charged.

  • Pick Up Native Wisconsin SeedsNative Wisconsin Seeds are now available in six - yes SIX - of our libraries! This year, we've added another new library location to the Seed Library(link is external) - Hawthorne Library! You can now pick up seed packets at Sequoya, Meadowridge, Pinney, Goodman South Madison, Lakeview and Hawthorne Libraries - no library card needed. Why Native seeds now? Native Wisconsin plant seeds are best sown in the fall and left to overwinter.
  • 2024 Neighborhood Grant Program: Have you and your neighbors been thinking about making community improvements or strengthening your neighborhood group? The Planning Division will once again offer funding through the Neighborhood Grant Program for Leadership and Capacity Building and Community Enhancement projects. The application deadline is February 12, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. In late December, we will post updated grant materials on our webpage for 2024. In the interim, you can refer to last year’s  guidelines for assistance. Once you are ready to start an application, please contact the Planning Division at  Neighborhoods@cityofmadison.com, and share project ideas with your alderperson.   • Mineral Point “Road Diet” Discussion on January 18, 2024 at 7:00 PM: Madison Midtown Police Station Community Room, 4020 Mineral Point Road. 7:pp pm to 8:30 PM (In-Person) Mineral Point Road from Midvale Blvd to the Speedway/Glenway intersection is still on the list to be resurfaced in 2024.  However, due to high traffic volumes on this section of Mineral Point Road caused by construction on other arterial roads in the area, city traffic engineering decided to delay any consideration of a “road diet” on this section of Mineral Point Road until early 2025.  Now is your time to weigh in on the advantages and disadvantages of putting Mineral Point Road on a “Road Diet.”
