Please find below highlights for this week’s upcoming matters. Please note the public information meeting on resurfacing on December 19 – that project includes Mineral Point Road from Glenway to Midvale, with significant changes to traffic configuration being considered.

Boards, Commissions, and Committee Meetings

Note: This is not a complete list of meetings for this upcoming week. All meetings and their details can be found here.

  • Plan Commission: The Plan Commission meeting will take place on Monday, December 11, in virtual format at 5:30 p.m. Agenda items include discussion of the West and Northeast Area Plans and development-related requests in Districts 2, 4, 13, and 18.
  • Joint Campus Area Committee: The Joint Campus Area Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 12, in virtual format at 5:30 p.m. Agenda items include informational presentations on the Camp Randall Sports Center Replacement Project and the UW-Madison Master Plan Amendment, as well as project updates from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, UW Health, City of Madison, and the Vilas Neighborhood Association.
  • Transportation Commission: The Transportation Commission meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 13, in virtual format at 5:00 p.m. Agenda items include Public Works Transportation Projects review and feedback, updates on Metro Transit accessibility and paratransit, and updates on the Transportation Commission Appeal Subcommittee hearing related to a taxicab license denial.  
  • City, County Schools Collaborative Committee: The City, County Schools Collaborative Committee meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 13, in virtual format at 5:30 p.m. Agenda items include a recap of the City, County, and MMSD 2024 budgets, an update on pedestrian safety for MMSD students, and a discussion of the recently passed State bill regarding drivers education.
  • Board of Park Commissioners: The Board of Park Commissioners meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 13, in virtual format at 6:30 p.m. Agenda items include an informational presentation by the City of Madison Planning Department regarding the West Area planning process and an informational presentation regarding a potential geothermal concept in Brittingham Park as a part of the CDA Triangle Redevelopment.

  • Public Input - Oak Park Heights Park, Monday, December 11 (VIRTUAL): Playground equipment piece discussion & selection – A meeting with the neighborhood Monday, December 11, 2023 at 6:00PM - online via Zoom REGISTER. This meeting will not be recorded. The meeting outcome will be posted on Oak Park Heights Playground Improvements.
  • Resurfacing Program Public Information Meeting, Tuesday, December 19 (VIRTUAL): The Annual Street Resurfacing Program is designed to improve the quality of your street and delay the need for total reconstruction. The City Engineering Division rates streets and curb & gutter every two years. Streets with a pavement rating of 5 or less on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being a new street) and a curb & gutter rating of 6 or greater are ideal candidates. Streets and curb & gutter with lower ratings require extensive replacement. They are patched until they are candidates for reconstruction. NOTE: Mineral Point Road from Glenway to Midvale is proposed as part of this effort.

  • Yoga Core, Tuesday, December 12, 2023 and Friday, December 15, 2023, 12:00 pm – 12:45 pmWant to build your strength and increase body awareness? Yoga Core is great way to do it! This class incorporates a wide variety of seated, standing, balancing, and mat-based yoga poses focusing on strength, stability, and mobility. Core-based practices can help enhance balance and stability and prevent falls and injuries as we age. All levels are welcome!
  • Lunch and Learn with Alder Wehelie & Alder Harrington-McKinney (VIRTUAL), Thursday, December 14: Alder Nasra Wehelie and Alder Barbara Harrington-McKinney are excited to host once-again a virtual Lunch and Learn. The Lunch and Learn will take place on Thursday, December 14, from 12-1 p.m. and will focus on City of Madison winter services, specifically snowplowing.  Bryan Johnson, the Public Information Officer of the Streets Division, will provide City of Madison residents with a comprehensive presentation on how the Streets Division responds to winter events, common misconceptions, and answer questions from residents.
  • Madison Bach Musicians Baroque Holiday Concert, December 15 & 16, First Unitarian Society Atrium.
  • Bird & Nature Adventures | Starkweather Creek Area, Saturday, December 16: Winter Tree ID with Eva Roos ~ Join Master Naturalist Eva Roos for a fun and informal free family friendly guided walk or take a healthy nature hike on your own any day in December.  We will follow easy walk and bike paths to Olbrich Gardens and along Starkweather Creek. Enjoy the outdoors and learn about trees when leaves have fallen and you can see the branching structures and bark more easily. Click here for Fun Facts about Winter and Tree ID. Learn to use the Seek app.  How many different kinds of trees can you find? Which are native to Wisconsin? Bring binoculars or a camera if you have one. Post your pictures and comments on the Friends of Starkweather Creek Facebook page!  Dress warm.
  • Run Santa Run, Saturday, December 16: Step into a winter wonderland as downtown Madison, Wisconsin, transforms into a merry playground for the festive Run Santa Run 5K. Lace up your running shoes and join the jolly crowd as hundreds of Santas, elves, and penguins take over the streets, spreading holiday cheer with every step. The festive atmosphere is contagious with a visit from Santa Claus, fun aid stations, and a race to stop the Grinch from stealing Christmas! Whether you're an avid runner or simply looking for a jolly good time, this spirited event promises laughter, holiday spirit, and a dash of competitive fun for all ages.
  • Bird & Nature Adventures | Warner Park, Sunday, December 17Walks at Warner Park held on the 3rd Sunday of every month are co-sponsored by Madison Bird City FUN partners Wild Warner and Madison Audubon . Meet at the colorful Warner Park shelter by the lagoon. Parking is available nearby. No registration is required. No pets are allowed.
