Hello neighbors,

You have probably already heard about some recent targeted ICE activity in the Madison area. Seven individuals were arrested, and there have been no reports of additional presence in the Madison area. The Madison Police Department (MPD) has confirmed that they were not involved. I know this is a challenging time for many members of our community.

It’s also important to be mindful about spreading misinformation. While this incident was real, there have been many social media posts about ICE activity in our area that turned out to be false. Voces De La Frontera has an emergency hotline available (1-800-427-0213) to vet information so community members know what’s accurate.

Additional resources:

For folks living on N Franklin, if you are planning on setting out yard waste for the October 5 set out date, you must put your yard waste into bags.

The Streets Division will not be able to collect loose piles of yard waste during the first round due to the ongoing project.

Paper leaf & lawn bags are preferred, but you are allowed to use traditional plastic bags if necessary.  You must keep your bags open at the top so crews can see what is inside them.

If you have additional yard waste pickup questions, please contact the Streets Division’s west office.

I’ve gotten a lot of feedback about the Transportation Commission’s recommendation to move forward with “Option 1” on Midvale Blvd, which would remove parking from Mineral Point to University Ave to allow an on-street bike resource. Alder Tishler and I have been in close contact with City staff on this project, and at this point, it looks like the project will be delayed for a while. We’ll share more details as they emerge, but please know that there will be no changes to Midvale for the short term.

The 7-11 at the corner of University and Walnut is interested in expanding their liquor license from solely selling beer, to also being able to sell wine. Please note no hard alcohol can be sold at gas stations. They will be holding a community meeting at 5pm on Monday October 6 at the gas station. During this session, community members can learn more about the business, ask questions, and share any concerns.
