Madison Food Policy Council Announces 2022 SEED Grants Cycle

The City of Madison Food Policy Council announces the 2022 SEED Grants cycle to address food access issues in our community. SEED Grants are small grants designed to support new and recently emerging projects or programs that support access to healthy food in our community.

The City of Madison 2022 Budget includes $50,000 in grant funds to be distributed by the Madison Food Policy Council. The Madison Food Policy Council is encouraging any organization, group, or agency that is devoted to making food more accessible to City of Madison residents to apply. Any proposal that improves the local food system will be considered. The maximum of any one grant will be limited to $10,000.
 
Interested applicants should go to the City of Madison SEED Grants webpage for the grant application background letter and application form.

Applications are due on Monday, February 28, 2022 by 5:00pm, and should be submitted to the Madison Food Policy Council at mfpc@cityofmadison.com. Applications will be reviewed and funding recommendations made to the Madison Food Policy Council by the SEED Grants Work Group of the Madison Food Policy Council in March 2022.

Final decisions will be announced in mid/late March 2022. Additional questions can be emailed to mfpc@cityofmadison.com and staff will respond as quickly as possible.

Badger Road Drop-off Site Closing March 25, 2022

Drop-off Site Will Remain Closed until at least April 2023

The Streets Division’s drop-off site located at 1501 W. Badger Rd will be closing on March 25, 2022 for a construction project.  The site will remain closed until at least the spring of 2023.

Closing Badger Rd will create many changes to the drop-off site services provided by the Streets Division. The below information provides an overview of these changes and alternative drop-off locations besides the Badger Rd site.

Additional releases will be published in the weeks ahead explaining all of the service adjustments residents can expect. In the meantime, you can read about all these changes now at our drop-off sites website, www.cityofmadison.com/DropOffSites.

Why is the Badger Rd drop-off site closing?
A construction project to demolish and rebuild the salt storage facilities at the Badger Rd drop-off site.

Due to the construction, there will not be sufficient space to operate a drop-off site safely.

402 South Point Rd Will Replace 1501 W. Badger Rd
Drop-off services currently available at the Badger Rd facility will be moved to 402 South Point Rd on the far west side of Madison.

The South Point Rd. drop-off site will be open for business at 7:30am on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

South Point will be open from then through the remainder of the year and through the winter of 2022-2023.

New Temporary Drop-off Site at 121 E. Olin Avenue
A special additional drop-off site open only on evenings and weekends will be in place at 121 East Olin Avenue. This site is expected to open in April 2022. Additional details will be provided with future releases.

This drop-off site location will close for the winter of 2022-2023.

Also, this drop-off site is the same location as the waste transfer and brush processing facilities. It will be critically important for your safety and Streets Division operations that you use the temporary Olin Avenue drop-off site only during the posted times.

West Side Streets Office Remains Opens
The Streets Division office also located at 1501 W. Badger Rd will remain open for resident questions and assistance, like help with setting up a large item work order or purchasing a fee sticker to drop-off an items at the remaining sites.
