Welcome, Recruit Class 63!

posted

The Madison Fire Department welcomed 24 new recruits today to begin a five-month journey toward becoming Firefighter/EMTs for the City of Madison.

This recruit class brings to the department a wealth of experience from a variety of professions. Some already have Fire and EMS certifications while others are embarking on a brand-new career.

Previous vocations represented by this group include environmental science and GIS analysis, nursing, physical therapy, sewer plant operations, food service, military service, realty, delivery logistics, and more.

Recruit Class 63 will spend eight weeks at the Madison College EMS Academy to earn their EMT-Basic certifications. Following that, they will complete the Fire Academy at Madison College and receive their state firefighter certifications.

During their final phase of the academy, they will return to the Madison Fire Department’s Fire Training Division, where they will be trained and acclimated to the department’s protocols, equipment, and performance standards.

Their academy experience will culminate with their graduation ceremony on Friday, June 5.

Please join us in cheering them on along the way!
