Where are you stationed?

Station 12 (South Point Road) on the 'A' shift. Previously at Station 3 (Willy Street) and at Station 5 (Cottage Grove Road) on the 'A' shift.

Why did you pursue this career?

Helping people has always been one of the most rewarding experiences I've felt in life, and I finally wanted to do more. There wasn't any other place to do it better than Madison. I've been here my whole life and I love everything here, from the people to the events and geography. I also think that no other job in the world is like this, in that every day is a new adventure and you never know what the day holds for you.

What has been one of the most rewarding experiences of your career up to this point?

During my time with MFD, I have experienced plenty of interesting and different calls, but on one of my previous station assignments we got to experience a field delivery of a baby. I drove the ambulance to the hospital, and seeing the joy of the family, hospital staff, and my crew was something I will never forget.

How do you see your role within the fire department contributing positively to the Madison community?

For me, the fire service is what I am most passionate about, and continuing to better myself every day gives me purpose and fulfillment along with improving my skills. Being able to perform my duties safely and effectively improves the outcomes for those who require our services on a daily basis. I also have been in the Madison area my entire life which makes serving more meaningful and personal to me.

What would you say to someone interested in joining the fire service?

Do it! I still can't believe I get to be paid to do all of this, and coming in every day never feels like just "going to work."
