Where are you stationed?

I'm currently assigned to Station 10 (Troy Drive) on the 'B' Shift as a Firefighter/EMT.

What is your earliest memory with a firefighter or paramedic, and how did it influence your desire to pursue this career?

My first real connection to the fire service came through my grandfather, who was a firefighter with the Buffalo Fire Department. Growing up, I was always fascinated by his stories. One story that stuck with me was about a family he helped on a call early in his career. Every Christmas after that incident, they sent him a handwritten thank-you letter. That story reminds me of the positive impact we can have on our community and what a privilege it is to be part of a profession where your actions can have such a big difference in the lives of others.

How did your previous education or work experience help prepare you for this role?

I finished college at UW-Madison with a Bachelor's degrees in Legal Studies and Political Science. After working a variety of different jobs, I decided to change up careers and applied to work for Madison Fire Department. My previous experiences taught me to stay calm, communicate clearly, and to always be learning. All qualities that serve me well in the fire service.

Why did you want to join the Madison Fire Department as a firefighter/EMT?

I wanted to work for the Madison Fire Department because I care deeply about this city and the people who live here. I've called Madison home since graduating high school, and in that time, this community has given me so many meaningful experiences and opportunities. I've always known I wanted a career that was fulfilling and firefighting felt like the perfect fit for that. What drew me specifically to MFD was its reputation and genuine care for both its members and the community. Madison is a city that values growth, compassion, and integrity, and I see those same qualities reflected in the department.

What has been your most memorable day on the job so far?

It's hard to pick just one most memorable day because this career is full of moments that stay with you. I'll never forget my first structure fire, my first major car accident, or the first medical call where I realized how much our presence can truly help someone.
