MFD's own Denise DeSerio has been named the 2026 Administrative Professional Of the Year by the Wisconsin Fire Chiefs Association!
This statewide honor celebrates the behind-the-scenes excellence, dedication, and organization of administrative support staff who keep fire and EMS departments running strong.
We believe there was no one more deserving than Denise, who serves as Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief and provides direct, daily support to all other chiefs as well as the department's administrative staff.
Currently in her 26th year with the department, Denise is a master of the intricacies of the department's administrative processes, and her institutional knowledge is unparalleled.
"An easy way to summarize her abilities is that Denise is the 'glue' that holds our department together," said Fire Chief Chris Carbon, who nominated DeSerio for the honor. "Denise sets the bar for reliability, ingenuity, customer service, and performance excellence."
In addition to supporting the Fire Chief, Denise also supervises five members of the department's administrative staff. She is revered by all of them. She provides a steady hand and coordination to ensure they have the details and support needed for their own success.
Hailed by department members for being a true team player who is invested and dedicated to everyone's success, she's also known for her kindness, empathy, and willingness to put others' needs at the front of the line.
"Beyond her operational excellence, Denise brings something equally important to our organization—heart," said Assistant Chief of Personnel Ron Blumer. "She is the quiet force behind the culture of our department, consistently recognizing the milestones and achievements of our members, from anniversaries to birthdays. Her thoughtfulness fosters a sense of belonging and morale that strengthens our entire team."
DeSerio accepted the award at a ceremony held at the Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association Conference on June 27, 2026.
