The west and near west sides of Madison have had extreme flooding with large rain events for the past three years (2016, 2017, and 2018). In the summer of 2018 there were two large rain events, which caused financial and emotional turmoil for those effected.
To address these issues, the City approved a budget amendment in November 2018 to fund large watershed and flood studies. These studies will help us identify existing problems, develop solutions, and prioritize improvements. We will be working on seven large watershed and flood studies in 2019 – 2020.
Provides background on why flash flooding happens, and how we are working towards flood resilience.
