After a Flood

A Streets Division truck picks up large items from a front yard after the August 2019 flood.

Cleanup and recovery from a flood can span anywhere from days to years. You should begin cleanup immediately because flood waters can carry contaminants that can pose health risks, such as sewage, fertilizer, manure, gas, and pesticides. It is important to stay out of flood waters if possible and clean up properly.

Report Flooding

Report flooding and damage to private property or public lands in the City of Madison. City Engineering will use the information to improve the stormwater system to reduce flooding damage in the future.

Sandbag Collection, Disposal

Find out what to do with your sandbags once the threat of flooding has passed.

Report Damaged Trees, Power Lines

If a tree was damaged during a storm, please report tree damage.

Lights out, power line down, or other emergency, call MG&E at 608-509-4338 or Alliant Energy at 800-255-4268, whichever provides power to your home.

Refuse and Large Item Pick Up

The Streets Division performs large item collection every other week. Large items are generally considered anything too large for the refuse cart. Any refuse item that can fit into the collection cart should be placed inside it, including lumber, toilets, small pieces of furniture, etc. Failure to follow the below instructions may result in your large items material not being collected.
