Unit Wells 10 and 29 - High Profile Well Developments

posted

Unit Well 29, which serves customers on the far east side, is currently designated as a stand-by seasonal well. This designation is due to manganese and iron levels that exceed the aesthetic limit and can result in discolored water. The unit well is placed into service for the high usage summer months to ensure adequate water supply for fire protection. In order to maintain an adequate level of chlorine for disinfection purposes, the well is run regularly on a pre-established schedule. This season the schedule for running Unit Well 29 is Monday from 8:00 AM to Noon and Thursday 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM on Friday. This schedule was developed in order to minimize any potential inconvenience to customers and to assure that Water Utility staff were on-site to verify well operation at start-up. However, today Unit Well 29 was run from 8:01 AM to 12:57 PM. Unit Wells 10 and 29 will be taken out of service for the season effective October 1, 2007. Please note, however, that Unit Well 29 will run for an additional twenty-one (21) consecutive days starting sometime in October for an extended period pumping test. This water will go to waste and not be pumped into the distribution system.
