Locations and Hours

What to Expect When You Vote Early

  • If you are already registered in the City of Madison, you will show your valid photo ID to the poll worker who will confirm your registration and prepare your ballot.
  • If you are not yet registered to vote, the voting clerk will help you register. Please ensure you bring the required documentation (photo ID and proof of address).
  • Once your voter registration is confirmed, you will mark your paper ballot using the ExpressVote ballot marking device.
  • After you mark your ballot, fold it and seal in an absentee envelope. You and the voting clerk will both sign the envelope. The Clerk's Office will securely store the ballot to be counted on Election Day.

Mailed absentee ballots

  • If you still have your absentee ballot, please return it as soon as possible. The Clerk's Office must receive your ballot before polls close on Election Day for it to be counted.
