Incident Details

There were no injuries reported after a vehicle struck a residential building on Katherine Court.

Engine 13 and Medic 8 responded to the scene and found an SUV that backed through the garage door of a side-by-side two-story duplex. The vehicle had traveled from across the street into the residence and caused some intrusion into the living room. The driver was not injured, and occupants inside the home at the time of the crash also reported they were uninjured. Nobody was home in the adjoining duplex.

The crash caused damage to a load-bearing wall, causing concern for possible building collapse. The MFD Heavy Urban Rescue Team was dispatched to shore up the property.

Meanwhile, Engine 13 shut down electricity and natural gas supply to the unit, and to clear out gasoline odor and low levels of carbon monoxide that had entered the duplex. Occupants were evacuated until HURT could complete their shoring operations. Schmitt's Auto arrived to tow the vehicle out of the garage.

Occupants were able to return home after MFD HURT installed the proper building materials to restore structural stability. MGE restored gas utilities, but some electrical breakers were kept off due to damage to electrical wiring. MFD personnel advised the homeowner regarding next steps they could take for final restoration and repairs.

MFD units cleared from the call at 2:51 PM.
