New Traffic Pattern for John Nolen Drive Construction
Beginning Monday, April 6, southbound South Broom Street will close to traffic, between West Wilson Street and John Nolen Drive, as part of the next phase of the John Nolen Drive reconstruction project.
Closures on South Broom Street and North Shore Drive will be coordinated to maintain continuous access, ensuring that at least one route to and from John Nolen Drive always remains open.
The anticipated closure schedule is as follows:
- Westbound North Shore Drive
- currently closed through Wednesday, April 22
- Southbound Broom Street
- closed Monday, April 6 through early June
- Northbound Broom Street
- closed Thursday, April 23 through early June
- North Shore Drive (full closure)
- early June through mid-July, following the reopening of Broom Street
Next Steps
Following completion of work on Broom Street and North Shore Drive in mid-July, traffic on John Nolen Drive will shift to the newly constructed southbound lanes on the causeway. Two-way traffic will operate on this side while reconstruction begins on the existing northbound lanes. During this time, the Capital City Trail will be detoured around Monona Bay. This traffic configuration is expected to remain in place until mid-summer 2027.
These dates reflect the current construction schedule and are subject to change. Additional updates will be provided prior to each closure to confirm timing.
