posted
Where are you stationed?
I am a rover on the “A" Shift
If you could describe your role in one sentence, what would it be?
I am responsible for driving and operating the fire truck.
What's the most exciting aspect of this promotion?
It's a new role and new responsibilities, so I get to learn new things and strive to become better each day.
What was the process of getting to this point in your career?
I spent 8 years as a firefighter, serving Stations 1, 2, and 10. I then “wrote" for Apparatus Engineer, which included a written test, over-the-road exam, operations exam, and Engineer Academy.
What keeps you passionate about the fire service?
The changing environment that we work in always provides unique challenges.
What does this promotion mean to you personally and professionally?
I am looking forward to the new challenge. I have spent my entire career so far riding backwards as a firefighter. This new role gives the opportunity for growth and development.
Where did you grow up, and did you have any prior history working in the fire service?
I grew up and currently reside in Mazomanie, a small town in the northwest corner of Dane County. I was a volunteer there for 5 years. After that I served with the City of Kenosha, and then was hired in Madison in 2018.
What do you enjoy doing when you're off duty?
I spend most of my time off duty with my wife and two young kids. We love the outdoors: hiking, biking, and swimming. You can find us on our boat cruising around Lake Wisconsin many summer evenings.
