Food Scraps Recycling Drop-off Returns to South Madison Farmers' Market on Tuesday, May 19, 2026
Free food scraps recycling drop-off returns to the South Madison Farmers' Market for the 2026 season!
The first date food scraps will be accepted is Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Look for the free food scraps drop-off to drop off your coffee grounds, eggshells, and appropriate vegetable and fruit scraps so they can be composted.
At the food scraps tent you can get a free bucket for carrying food scraps, guides, and even fun stickers about our collection goal.
Food scraps drop-off at the South Madison Farmers' Market is the third neighborhood food scraps drop-off site to open for the season. We also have neighborhood food scraps drop-offs at the Madison Eastside Farmers' Market and the Westside Community Market.
South Madison Farmers' Market Details
You will find the South Madison Farmers' Market at 1602 S. Park Street.
The market is set up right at the corner of S. Park St. and W. Wingra Dr. on the Madison Labor Temple grounds.
There is plenty of free parking along W. Wingra Dr., and it's an easy trip from the Wingra Creek Bike Path.
Food scraps drop-off will be available at this market on Tuesdays from 2:00pm to 6:00pm
The appropriate scraps will be accepted every Tuesday starting on May 19, 2026, and ending on October 27, 2026.
Additional details about the South Madison Farmers' Market can be found on Robert Pierce's new website.
What food scraps can you bring to the market to compost?
You can bring coffee grounds, eggshells, raw fruits, raw vegetables, and other similar scraps.
Do not bring meat, bones, baked goods, compostable plastics, paper products, grease, or dairy products (including cheese).
Read more about what you can, and cannot, bring in for composting to the food scraps drop-off sites on the Streets Division's Food Scraps website.
Staff at the food scraps drop-off tent will be there to help you, too, if you have any questions.
Will there be other market sites?
Yes!
The South Madison Farmers' Market is the third of four total market sites the City of Madison will have this season.
Details about each of the market sites can be found on our food scraps website.
