Madison LakeWay Artist Meet & Greet
postedThe City of Madison and the Madison LakeWay Partners are inviting four finalists to propose designs for public art for the first phase of the Madison LakeWay.
Madison LakeWay Partners will host a community meet and greet with the finalists on Wednesday, June 24, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the Madison Parks Lakeside Offices, 330 East Lakeside Street. Please join us to meet the artists, see examples of their work, and learn about the creative vision each brings to this once-in-a-generation waterfront project. Their work can be found in cities and public spaces around the world, and now one of them may help create an iconic destination along Lake Monona.
For planning purposes, please register in advance at this link.
After reviewing 79 submissions from artists around the world, the LakeWay Public Art Selection Committee recommended four finalists to be considered for the first public art installation along the LakeWay: Jill Anholt, Choi + Shine, Loop, and SpY.
The LakeWay Public Art Selection Committee anticipates incorporating multiple artworks of varying scale, media, and concepts. Opportunities exist for sculptures, integrated landscape art, interactive and digital works, light, or sound-based installations, and more. The resulting artworks may be individual standalone pieces, a series of elements that connect multiple locations along the corridor, or pieces that enhance architectural elements in exciting ways.
The first phase of the project, the SkyLine, encompasses sites along the John Nolen Drive Causeway, offering dynamic opportunities for public art along bicycle and pedestrian trails, fishing piers, and viewpoints where people can take in the breathtaking expanse of Lake Monona and the Madison skyline.
Finalists will work on design proposals for the SkyLine over the summer and submit their designs by September 14. The City will then issue a community survey to collect feedback about the proposals. We anticipate that the LakeWay Public Art Selection Committee will recommend the commission at our meeting on October 19.
