Retrieval of Carts

99% of trash and recycling containers are no longer part of the barricades. I have spoken with protest organizers and you can go retrieve your carts. If you face any resistance, please text me at 608-419-7066. If you cannot find your carts, continue reading.

The following is a message from the Streets Department except where noted.

Trash & Recycling Pickup

For the properties that are missing their collection carts, our crews will collect tied bags of trash & recycling. If you are inside the barricaded area, please bring them to the nearest terrace area outside the barricaded area. If you are already outside this area, just place them on your own terrace.

The bags need to be out by around 6:30am on the scheduled collection day. 

The bags need to weigh less than 40 pounds apiece.

This is the recycling week for this area, too.

Trash needs to be black trash bag, or similar kind of bag, that you cannot see through.

Recycling will need to be in clear bags, or other bags you can very obviously see through (it can have a light tint to it, that's fine; white bags do not work for recycling).

Note from Davy: If you do not have any clear bags, text me at 608-419-7066 with how many you need and I will come and tie them to your door knob (please do this by Wednesday afternoon). Willy St. Co-op does not sell this kind of clear garbage bag. I bought the last box from Festival so I could distribute them.

If our crews cannot see into the bag to tell if it recycling immediately, we will need to assume it is trash and it will go to the landfill.  So, yes, clear bags are important for recycling.

Getting Carts Back to Places That Are Missing Them

During collection this week, we will be writing down the addresses of the places that have bags out for pickup, and are therefore missing carts.

Also, people are welcome to call our east side office at 608-246-4532 to let us know that they are missing carts and we will schedule them for cart delivery as soon as possible.

We are fast approaching the August moving days, so those extra collections will also be ramping up in the days ahead.
