Incident Details
The Madison Fire Department responded to a home on the 800 block of Kottke Drive after a vehicle crashed into the house. The crash caused an 8-foot by 8-foot hole in a wall adjacent to an occupied bedroom. Someone was sleeping in their bed on the other side of the wall when the car crashed through it. The person who was sleeping reported non-life-threatening injuries, was evaluated by paramedics, but did not want to be taken to the hospital.
A one-foot intrusion into a second condo was also created after the driver backed into a second wall. Paramedics also evaluated the driver, who was not taken to the hospital. The vehicle was severely damaged and undriveable. Madison Police called a towing company to have the vehicle removed and remained in contact with the driver.
The MFD Heavy Urban Rescue Team (HURT) was consulted regarding the structural integrity of the building. The HURT determined there was enough structural support that no additional shoring was needed at that time.
Ladder 2 took measures to secure the property and protect it from potential weather-related damage. Occupants of both homes were advised to stay out of the damaged areas if they chose to stay home overnight.
