District Niners,

• In the aftermath of the officer involved shooting on Williamson and Baldwin Streets, questions remain unanswered for many constituents across the city, the county, the state, as well as Madisonians who live beyond the borders the state.  The primary focus of the discussion centers on the City's approach to protests and the re-opening of Williamson St./Baldwin St. intersection.  On Monday (August 24th), do consider attending the live-streamed (virtual) meeting with alders fielding questions to the Mayor, Chief of Police, Fire Department, Office of the City Attorney, Finance, Public Health Madison and Dane County, Office of the Independent Monitor, Public Works and the Community Development Division from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.  There will be no public comment.  Questions (from constituents} should be sent to your alder person no later than 10:00AM on Monday.  Better yet, send your questions directly to the Council President, Sabrina Madison, or the Chief of Staff, Karen Kapusta-Pofahl.  This is a first step towards (openly) discussing this incident from perspectives of the mayor and other city operatives as well as questions submitted by constituents.

• District 1 Alder Position: There are six (6) applications from eligible District 1 residents interested in serving as the interim District 1 alder (formerly held by John Duncan) until April 20, 2027.      Each of the applicants will be invited to the next step in the process, which is an interview.  The goal is to seat a District 1 alder at the September 8, 2026 City Council meeting.
