Incident Details
Ladder 2 and Medic 6 responded to the corner of Westfield Road and Mineral Point Road, where a vehicle that had been traveling eastbound was struck by another vehicle traveling northbound.
As a result of the crash, the eastbound vehicle left the roadway, drove over a small tree, and careened down a small stairway, taking out two metal handrails. The vehicle finally came to a rest against the northeast corner of a building nearby.
When the car struck the building, it caused a significant electrical hazard. An electrical panel and several meters were damaged. The car also appeared to be snagged on an electrical meter.
Alliant Energy was requested at the scene, and firefighters refrained from making contact with the vehicle out of concern for the electrical hazard.
Alliant Energy shut down the power to the entire building complex, affecting at least one business that was open at the time.
No injuries were reported from either of the vehicles involved. MPD remained on scene as MFD cleared.
