Incident Details

Firefighters were called to the area of Olin Park twice Wednesday for outdoor fires that appeared to be intentionally set. 

At 8:44 AM, Engine 1 responded to a report of an outside fire just south of the Olin boat ramp. A witness noticed small fires on the edge of the grass and woods near the lakeshore. Two separate fires were found approximately 100 feet apart. They appeared to be campfires. Engine 1 extinguished the fires. MPD and a Madison Park Ranger were briefed by MFD on the situation. 

At 2:46 PM, Engine 6 responded to Wingra Creek Parkway & W. Olin Avenue for another outside fire near Wingra Creek. This fire involved wood and grass. A container of lighter fluid was found nearby. Engine 6 extinguished the fire and turned the scene over to MPD for further investigation.
