Water main flushing this week; Welcome new businesses to the District; Steps at pedestrian bridge over Campus Drive closed; Lots of Events & Announcements

Hello neighbors,

Out of an abundance of caution, the steps at the pedestrian bridge over campus drive at Prospect and University have been closed. The ramps and bridge remain open. City engineering staff have assured me the bridge remains safe to all pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

Due to today's rain predictions, the Rocky Bluff Summer Picnic has been moved to tomorrow, September 20. It will be held at the same time (3-6pm) in the same place (2922 Stevens St.).

Water main flushing this week will take place north of Regent Street, West of Breese Terrace.

A hearty welcome to Grandad's Farm Stop, which opened this week in our District. Barrett's Bagels is opening soon as well. The addition of these businesses will really activate the corner at Speedway and Mineral Point!

When my daughter wanted to play basketball and train for the ability to play at West High, there were limited options available. I'm pleased to report that West has a new girls basketball coach, who is working to develop the feeder program needed to build back West's girls basketball offerings. Please check out the Regent Youth Sports Program for information on upcoming tryouts (the next 2 weekends) for our youth in grades 4-8.

  • Brush Collection Nearing the End: Check to see if you have a brush set out date remaining before you set out branches and sticks for pickup. 
    • It's finally starting to feel like fall! This locally-written article explains the benefits of keeping leaves on your property, and what to do with your leaves instead of piling them by the curb. 
  • Hispanic Heritage Month 2026: In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15-October 15, Madison Public Library will host a series of events highlighting the achievements and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans and celebrating Hispanic and Latino American culture. Throughout the rest of the year, upcoming events in Spanish or about Latinx culture and resources in Spanish will also appear on their “Hispanic Heritage Month 2026" website.

  • Speed Golf Event at The Glen, Sunday, September 20: Madison's first ever Speed Golf event. What is Speed Golf? Speed golf combines running and golf into one fast-paced challenge, with a player's score based on their strokes and time. Play fast, run hard and see how quickly you can finish the course!
  • Bird & Nature Adventures | Warner Park, Sunday, September 20: Rot & Decay is Cool ~ Bring family and friends on this fun nature adventure at Warner Park with Naturalist Kathlean Wolf.  Yukky stuff is fascinating!   What's going on underneath the surface when you see a mushroom growing on a dead log or the side of a tree?
  • Movie at The Glen | Secret Life of Pets, Sunday, September 20: School is back in session, but the weather is still lovely!  Bring your kids out for an evening of fun at The Glen Golf Park. We will be showing Secret Life of Pets and to help with bedtime, we have adjusted the movie start time back an hour to begin at 5pm.
  • Regent Neighborhood Association Board meeting, Monday, September 21, 6-7:15pm. Hear from Arts Administrator Karin Wolf about progress on art for the Walnut Street underpass. 
  • Introduction to Bumble Bee Photography and Identification, Monday, September 21: Bumblebees are active well into the fall and this is a great time of year to observe them and the fall-blooming plants like goldenrods and asters that they pollinate.
  • FREE Fall Fun at Aldo Leopold Park with Ballet Folklorico Mexico and more, September 23 and 30 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.: Join the City's Leopold Arbor Hills Neighborhood Resource Team at Aldo Leopold Park for Ballet Folklorico (Mexico's traditional Aztec and Mexican dance), social dance lessons, ultimate frisbee, disc golf, mountain biking, and a light dinner served at 6:30 p.m.
  • Volunteer Workday | Seed Collection, Thursday, September 24: Join Madison Parks at Prairie Ridge Conservation Park for a large-scale seed collection event. Volunteers will help support the City's ecological restoration efforts by collecting seeds from native plants in a single, focused session. 
  • Fall Concert, Thursday, September 24: Free Fall Concert at Olin Park Pavilion hosted by Friends of Olin-Turville (FOOT). Ladies Must Swing (LMS), A Big Band In Tune. An all-female jazz band that will have you reliving memories and dancing in your chair.
  • Imagination Center at Reindahl Park Ribbon Cutting, Friday, September 25: Celebrate the opening day of the Imagination Center at Reindahl Park(external) with a ribbon cutting ceremony from 3:00 - 4:00pm.
  • Volunteer at The Glen, Saturday, September 26: We seek passionate individuals and groups committed to giving back to the community and connecting with the City of Madison golf courses. Gain experience, foster personal growth, and build relationships within the community. 
  • Bird & Nature Adventures | Edna Taylor, Saturday, September 26: Join a naturalist for an easy, family-friendly walk from Aldo Leopold Nature Center into beautiful Edna Taylor Conservation Park and enjoy a bit of nature education along the way.
  • Volunteer Workday | Planting, Saturday, September 26: Help improve Madison Parks by assisting with a general planting workday at Junction Ridge Park. Volunteers will help install native plants, flowers, shrubs, or other vegetation depending on the project. 
  • Movie in the Park | The Fifth Element, Saturday, September 26: Join Downtown Madison's Business Improvement District (BID) and Madison Parks for a free movie in Peace Park! 
  • The7th Annual Regent Neighborhood Art Walk will be on Saturday, September 26th from 10:00am-4:00pm (rain date is 9/27).
  • The Bicycle Film Festival will be at the Barrymore on Thursday,October 1, starting at 6:30pm.
  • This year's week without driving will be October 1-8. Challenge yourself to leave your car at home this week!
  • On Sunday, October 4th, the Ride for Your Life event will honor the life of Sasha Rosen. This bike ride and walk will start at Brittingham Park, and end at the State Capitol, with bikes riding through Madison's neighborhoods.
