Incident Details
Ladder 14 responded to South Stoughton Road for a U-Haul moving truck that was on fire.
Ladder 14 parked uphill and upwind from the vehicle. The rear cargo box of the van was completely engulfed and the rear roll-up door had collapsed in on itself.
The driver and passenger assured firefighters there were no other occupants inside the van and there were no hazardous materials in the cargo area.
Ladder 14 extended a hose line to the U-Haul vehicle and began to extinguish the fire. After the rear cargo area was extinguished, firefighters moved to the passenger area of the truck. Thick smoke and hot spots were found inside the passenger cab.
Firefighters continued to apply foam and water until all fire was completely extinguished. They inspected the entire vehicle with a thermal imaging camera and overhauled the items inside the rear cargo area to ensure there were no other hot spots.
The fire was discovered after someone in a nearby parking lot flagged down the driver and passenger. It is unknown what caused the fire. No injuries were reported.
