Incident Details
A family and their dog were displaced after a fire in their home.
Residents called 911 reporting smoke and flames visible in their bathroom. Engine 6 arrived on scene to find the residents safely evacuated and directing crews to the first-floor bathroom.
Upon entering the home, crews encountered light smoke and saw an orange glow coming from around an exhaust fan in the bathroom. Ladder 1 went to the roof to check for extension and encountered more smoke in the attic. Engine 6 then did overhaul of the bathroom and used a hose line to extinguish the flames and cool down the attic area.
No injuries were reported.
The Fire Investigation Team (FIT) was dispatched to investigate cause of the fire and determined that heat from the exhaust fan motor and light bulb ignited dust inside the fan housing.
The American Red Cross responded to assist the displaced family.
The estimated loss is $80,000.
