Politics vs Moral Internal Compass

Response to a District 20 constuent: I am disappointed in your vote:

The vote was NOT for the position of the permanent Independent Police Monitor.  My vote was for the completion of the 5 month contract approved in June by council. It was about need for restructuring the PCOB, the permanent IPM position selection process and clarity of MOUs, procedures and processes. It was about a needed reboot of the entire PCOB structure and 5 years of the unmentioned failed performance measures of the previous IPM’s record of performance but landing on the shoulders of one person who did not understand how Madison-nice works. It was about stripping professional and personal planning for a 5 month contract period terminated in one night by 14 votes. I am a Restorsitive Justice practitioner. I accept your decision to not support me going forward. I request 2 things: review the film “Selma". Schedule coffee with me sometime in the future. I must live with decisions I make. Voting to end the IPM s contract would have been against my internal moral compass. That choice I could not make.
