In case you haven’t heard, we have a primary election coming up on February 21, which is just 2 weeks away! Early in person voting has started, and you may request a mail-in absentee ballot for one more week. Candidates’ answers are available through the League of Women Voters website.
Events
- Learn About the Northeast and West Area Plans: Planning efforts are underway by the City of Madison to help shape the future of our West and Northeast neighborhoods. The Northeast Area Plan and West Area Plan will be the first under this new Planning Framework that will ultimately cover the entire city. Guided by overarching City policies and feedback from stakeholders, these Area Plans will guide physical changes that occur over time in our community, such as land use, housing, transit, streets, bike paths, and other community facilities.
- West Area Plan Public Meetings:
- In-Person Meeting: Thursday, February 9 at 6:00 p.m. at Vel Phillips Memorial High School, 201 S. Gammon Rd. Enter front doors and look for directional signs. This meeting will have interpretation, childcare and food.
- Virtual Meeting: Monday, February 13 at 6:00 p.m. Registration is required and can be completed on the project webpage.
- West Area Plan Public Meetings:
- Make plans for Family Fun Night, at Warner Park Community Recreation Center on February 10, 2023 - 5:30pm to 8:00pm. Cost is only $5 per family!
- The Plan Commission will be considering the revision of the "Family Definition" on February 13, 6pm. Please register if you would like to comment.
- Food: A Cultural Culinary History: Mondays, 1:30 – 3:30 pm, February 13 – May 1, explores the history of how we have produced, cooked and consumed food through the ages. Activities will include sampling food!
- Voices of Color, Hosted by Melvin Hinton to learn about and meet individuals whose diverse leadership is shaping the future of our community. On February 16 at 10:00, we welcome Dr. Linda Vakunta, Deputy Mayor!
- Law Enforcement Recruitment Fair, February 16, 6-7:30pm, Femrite Drive Training Center. Questions? Contact Stephanie Fryer.

- Monona Terrace Call for Sculpture Artist Submissions: The Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center is soliciting submissions for its 2023 sculpture exhibition. Application deadline: March 1.
- Call for Artists: Exhibition Application for Madison Public Library 2023-2024: The Bubbler at Madison Public Library is looking for artists to display their art in Madison’s libraries from summer 2023 through summer 2024. Application deadline: March 10.
- Lake Monona Waterfront Design Challenge: Three design teams have presented their vision for Madison's Lake Monona Waterfront. See the proposals, watch the recorded presentations and take the survey!
- The City’s Community Development Division (CDD) is excited to announce that CDD’s Major Rehabilitation Loan Program, for single family properties, is now operated through Project Home, Inc. This program provides long term deferred loans (up to $24,999) to low-to-moderate income homeowners in need of repairs or improvements to their housing.
- A New Way to Step into the Infrastructure Industry: The City of Madison Engineering Division has a new infrastructure program, Madison Infrastructure Training - Engineering Program, also known as the MI-TE Program. The MI-TE Program is a paid, six-month-long program, where trainees learn in the classroom and hands-on field training in concrete flat work, asphalt patching and utility casting adjustments. The program is designed to prepare trainees for a career in Public Work with the City of Madison. Trainees will learn how the City’s infrastructure is built and maintained, about related equipment operation and construction safety.
