Witnessed neighbors helping neighbors after the storm caused damage in district 11
postedDear District 11 neighbors and friends,
I am so proud of the community response I just witnessed in our district with neighbors helping neighbors remove fallen tree branches, redirect pedestrians and street traffic from downed powerlines, and checking on the eldery to make sure they were safe. I am reposting a message sent recently on the Urban Forestry Responding to Storm Damage. There are still many homes without power in our district so continue to check on your neighbors to see if they need assistance this evening as crews continue to repair the damage from the storm that hit our community this afternoon.
Be safe,
Bill

Urban Forestry Responding to Storm Damage
The City of Madison Urban Forestry and Streets Division are responding this afternoon's severe storm.
Crews will be working through evening clearing downed trees from roadways and removing fallen trees from parked cars and other private property. Once these high priority issues are resolved, crews will then move to other concerns, such as broken limbs still attached to trees.
Damage from this storm occurred throughout the city. It will take crews a long time to respond to all of these issues, especially for lower priority concerns. Complete clean up from this storm is expected to take multiple days.
How to Report Tree Damage
To report damage to a city tree in the terrace, or if a private property tree has fallen and is blocking the road or sidewalk, call the Urban Forestry office at 608-266-4816 between the hours of 7:00am and 3:00pm.
After 3:00pm, please call the non-emergency Dane County number at 608-255-2345. Dane County dispatchers will be able to relay the information to on-call Forestry personnel.
If a fallen limb or tree is power lines near your home, contact Madison Gas and Electric at 608-252-7111.
Additional details regarding the Urban Forestry response to storms can be found on the storm damage page of the Urban Forestry website.
