Budget Session, Salt and Assessment Ordinances, Artists' Night - D15 Update 10/24/22

2nd virtual community session on the 2023 budget

The city’s budget for 2023 will be debated and adopted by the Common Council in November. In addition to public comment opportunities at Finance Committee and Council meetings over the next six weeks, there will be two virtual community sessions on the budget. City Finance staff will provide background information on the city’s capital and operating budget process, including highlights of the 2023 executive budget. This is a great opportunity for residents to learn more about our city’s budget. Electronic copies of budget information can be found at. Common Council Meeting

Tuesday’s Common Council meeting includes two items that I have worked on. Item 11 - Amending Section 10.28(1) of the Madison General Ordinances to Limit the Use of Salt and Melting Agents on Sidewalks will allow Building Inspection to address issues of oversalting on public sidewalks and Item 14 - Approving and Adopting an Updated Policy for Assessing Street Improvements will change our street assessment policy to make street assessments more consistent across the city and will shift the costs away from properties where new sidewalks are included in the projects. This will be especially beneficial to residents of neighborhoods without existing sidewalks like Lake Edge. You can find a link to the full agenda and a link to register for public comment here.

Artists’ Night

Several venues in District 15 will be hosting special events this Friday as an alternative to next month’s Gallery Night. Midwest Clay Project has one with details here and Communication has another event with details here.
