Board of Health-Salt Use-Madison-County

Gracias to the Board of Health team for supporting this request. I initiated the discussion on this topic a few months ago. The board brought together representatives from various organizations, including the City of Madison Engineering and Streets, Dane County Highway and Transportation, Madison Water Utility, Wisconsin Salt Wise, and Public Health Madison & Dane County. Together, we discussed standard operating procedures and the effects of salt overuse on our lakes and public health. I appreciate all the presenters for their contributions!

 The presentation is filled with valuable information about winter salt science, city wells, the approaches to salt usage in other countries, agency collaboration, street jurisdiction, and more. This collaboration provides an opportunity to strengthen the working relationship between the City and County, maximizing the protection of our lakes. I am excited to continue this work.
