Vision Zero Network Continues to Expand

Fitchburg city council votes to adopt Vision Zero policy

Congratulations to our neighbors in Fitchburg on reaching this significant milestone! Fitchburg has now joined the ranks of cities that recognize the need to prioritize the well-being of all their residents, making a safer environment for everyone on the road. It's becoming increasingly evident that we cannot rely solely on law enforcement to correct every poor judgment call we make while driving. Each time we get behind the wheel, we face the choice of how to drive responsibly, and speeding can often be a tempting option. I admit that I sometimes find myself moving too fast, caught up in the moment, or distracted by the demands of daily life.

It is proven that innovative visual aids, such as vibrant street art designed to capture attention, strategically placed flashing speed beacons that warn drivers in real time, and clearly visible 20 MPH speed limit signs, are effective ways to encourage safer driving behaviors. These measures are intended to reduce speeds among distracted drivers who may not be fully aware of their excess speed.
