Project Information
The Madison Parks Division will replace the athletic field turf at Breese Stevens Field in 2026. The current artificial turf, installed in 2014, has reached the end of its useful life. This project is a necessary part of facility maintenance to ensure the continued use of the field for athletic events. In 2024, Madison Parks hired a consulting firm to evaluate available turf systems for the replacement. A key requirement of the evaluation was that the new system must meet FIFA standards for professional soccer, as Breese Stevens Field is home to Forward Madison FC. The project is scheduled to go out for public works bidding in the fourth quarter of 2025, with construction and turf replacement planned for early 2026.
The anticipated project schedule:
- 08/06/25 - BPW approval of plans and specifications for public works bidding
- 09/02/25 - Common Council approval of plans and specifications for public works bidding
- 09/11/25 - First Ad for public works bidding
- 10/09/25 - Bidding opening
- 10/29/25 - BPW review of contract award
- 11/25/25 - Common Council review of contract award
- 12/12/25 - Start to Work Letter issued
- Early 2026 - Construction
