Madison’s parks provide the perfect outdoor setting for fitness classes, educational programs, and group activities — from yoga and boot camps to art workshops and nature lessons. Offering classes in parks encourages community wellness and connection while making use of our beautiful public spaces.

The Classes in Parks permit allows instructors and organizations to offer classes and programs in City of Madison parks while protecting shared public spaces and ensuring equal access for all.

Do I need a Classes in Parks Permit?

A Classes in Parks permit is required for any organized or recurring class or program held in a City of Madison park. This includes activities such as fitness classes, yoga, boot camps, dance, art, or educational workshops.

A permit is required for free community classes, but no fees apply unless a shelter or athletic space is reserved.

One-time or casual group activities that do not involve instruction, payment, or promotion generally do not require a permit but must still follow all park rules.
