Today officers conducted an enhanced traffic enforcement operation on E Gorham St in the area of James Madison Park. From 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm officers made a total of 12 stops for speeding violations. One vehicle's speed was measured at 58 MPH when it observed officers and excelerated to avoid stop attempts. All vehicles stopped were traveling at least 13 MPH over the posted speed limit (25 MPH).
Please slow down - a vehicle traveling at 20 MPH has a stopping distance of approximately 105 ft, while a vehicle's stopping distance is over 300 ft when traveling at just 40 MPH.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
