Traffic Enforcement & Safety Blotter

Traffic Enforcement - Pedestrian & Bicyclist Safety

July 28, 2021 5:55 PM

Today, Officers from the Madison Police Department conducted an enhanced enforcement project on University Ave near N Brooks St.  Officers were focusing on speeding and other hazardous driving in an area with significant pedestrian and bicycle activity.

During the project officers made a total of 17 stops.  7 of the stops were for speeding in the 25 MPH zone and 10 were for running the red light at the intersection.

In 2021 Madison has had 5 fatal motor vehicle vs pedestrian/bicyclist crashes.  Yield to pedestrians, and share the road with bicyclists.

These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office.
