Traffic Enforcement & Safety Blotter

Seat Belt and Speeding Enforcement - Beltline

February 3, 2022 9:58 AM

Last evening, Officers from the Madison Police Department, including members of TEST (Traffic Enforcement & Safety Team), conducted an enhanced traffic enforcement project on the Beltline near Agriculture Dr., focusing on speeding, seat belt use, and other hazardous violations.  The project was conducted from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM.

During this project officers conducted a total of 20 stops for speeding. The highest speed stopped was for 75 MPH in the 55 MPH zone.  All stops were for vehicles traveling at least 15 MPH over the limit.  During this project two vehicles fled from officer's attempts to stop them.  One of the vehicles that fled was traveling 82 MPH prior to officers attempting the stop.  Officers will be following up on those two incidents.

These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office.  Areas selected for targeted enforcement are based off of traffic crash data and Vision Zero Madison's High Injury Zone.
