About Alder Henak

We are an academic family counting our blessings for being able to settle down in a welcoming community such as Madison.

I was born and raised just west of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Growing up I was involved in musical theater, dance, horse care and riding(I worked at a stable from a young age), skiing, golfing, camping and canoeing in the Boundary Waters, and working construction and ranching with my grandfather in the summers.

I met my wife Corinne at the University of Denver, Colorado where Corinne was studying Mechanical Engineering and I Finance and Economics. We lived on the same floor of the freshmen dorm and met through a leadership program that we both participated in throughout our undergraduate education.

After graduation, we moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where I worked in finance/banking as well as K-9 Search and Rescue,  Ski Patrol, Wilderness Youth Therapy, Utah Air National Guard, Dog Sled Guiding, and the Neighborhood Community Council to stay busy while Corinne was studying. After getting married, 5 years of adventure, and a lot of work, Corinne received her PhD in Bioengineering.

We packed up the U-haul and moved cross-country to Ithaca, NY where Corinne was a post doc at Cornell University. I worked in the Engineering Dean's Office, substitute taught elementary education, contracted in two cabinet making shops, worked on ski patrol, worked as a volunteer fire fighter/EMT and completed half a masters in elementary education degree before the arrival of our first son Ezekiel (now 4). I then stayed home with Ezekiel and led a fathers' community group in the area.

We were there for 2 years enjoying the gorgeous canyons, developing our love for Great Lakes country, and learning about state hiking trail systems (they have the Finger Lakes Trail similar to our Ice Age Trail). Corinne taught and did research in biomedical engineering.

After 2 years in Ithaca, we were honored with a job offer at UW-Madison for Corinne.  We packed up the trusty U-haul again and settled in Madison just up the hill from Lake Wingra. Since arriving in Madison, we had our second son Obadiah (now 1.5)

Upon moving to Madison, I got involved with Madison Dads Group, a wonderful city wide group of involved fathers. I have since also enjoyed working with The Crawford -Marlborough-Nakoma Neighborhood Association (CMNNA), the Thoreau PTO, and The Nakoma League. Since moving into our home I have very much enjoyed finally being able to do some construction projects and build the furniture to furnish our home.

I enjoy being home with Ezekiel and Obadiah. Last summer, we took a camping road trip around lake Michigan and are now two ferries away from our goal of riding all the public ferries on the Great Lakes. We have explored most of the State Parks in Wisconsin and Ezekiel is close to being able to set up the tent by himself.

I am very excited to be serving District 10 as your alder. I care deeply for this community and hope you will reach out with any questions or concerns.
