Meeting and Event Highlights for the Week of January 9th, 2023

posted

The proposed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line will run through the Hill Farms neighborhood from Mineral Point Road, on Whitney Way, Sheboygan Avenue and Segoe Road, to University Avenue. On December 12, 2022, the Madison Plan Commission recommended the adoption of an amendment to rezone property located within ¼ mile on either side of the BRT route. You can read more about this decision on our District 11 12/14/22 blog post. This proposed ordinance was originally scheduled to appear on the January 3, 2023 Common Council agenda but after opposition from several Alders, this item was delayed until the January 17, 2023 meeting to give us time to inform the public about these changes. There will now be two public information meetings (PIM) this week for you to learn and ask question about the Bus Rapid Transit and the proposed addition of the historic districts.

  • Virtual 1/12/23
Transit-Oriented Development Overlay Zoning District Meeting: The Planning Division will be hosting a virtual public meeting on Transit-Oriented Development Overlay Zoning on Thursday, January 12th at 6pm.  Advanced signup is required. (After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the Zoom meeting on 1/12.)

Both the in-person 1/10 and virtual 1/12 public information meetings will contain information from previous public meetings and Committee meetings covering what TOD Overlay Zoning is, why it is being pursued, and the various components of the drafted ordinance that will be in front of Council on January 17th.  City staff will be showing some information and case studies on how the TOD Overlay relates to national and local historic districts due to the additional interest in that topic generated by the Transportation Policy and Planning Board's (TPPB) and Plan Commission's recommendations to Council that historic districts be included within the Overlay area.  The City's online zoning map has been updated with the new draft TOD Overlay area recommended by TPPB and Plan Commission.
