Mineral Point “Road Diet” Discussion on January 18, 2024 at 7:00 PM

Join the City Traffic Engineering Staff and Alders Tishler (District 11) and Vidaver (District 5) on January 18th for a neighborhood discussion about future changes to the configuration of Mineral Point Road from Midvale Blvd to Speedway/Glenway Street.

Madison Midtown Police Station 4020 Mineral Point Rd, Madison, WI 53705

Location: Madison Midtown Police Station Community Room
Address: 4020 Mineral Point Road
Time: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Use the main entrance (lobby) on Mineral Point Road.  There are 20 visitor parking stalls available at the station parking lot.

Mineral Point Road from Midvale Blvd to the Speedway/Glenway intersection is still on the list to be resurfaced in 2024.  However, due to high traffic volumes on this section of Mineral Point Road caused by construction on other arterial roads in the area, city traffic engineering decided to delay any consideration of a “road diet” on this section of Mineral Point Road until early 2025.

Now is your time to weigh in on the advantages and disadvantages of putting Mineral Point Road on a “Road Diet.”

Mineral Point Road is currently four lanes with directional peak-hour lanes.  On-street parking is allowed during off-peak times, although not heavily utilized.  A road diet on this street would consist of reducing the street down to three travel lanes (one lane in each direction plus a center left-turn lane) with marked buffered bike lanes.  All on-street parking would be permanently eliminated along this stretch.
