Comp Plan Interim Update, W. Badger & S. Park, Lake Monona Waterfront

posted

Hi Everyone,

Here are this week's updates.

Comprehensive Plan Interim Update

Last week, Planning staff held a public meeting to present details regarding the Comp Plan Interim Update. The current Comp Plan was adopted in 2018, subject to a state requirement that municipalities adopt such plans every ten years. At this halfway point, we are reviewing and updating the Plan to make adjustment with respect to future land uses. The proposed changes to date are shown here. The process is open to residents, and the application to propose additional amendments can be found here. (Please note the deadline for submitting recommendations is coming up soon on August 6.)

I have met with staff about possible changes to a stretch of land in the Greenbush neighborhood along the south side of Regent Street. These parcels are currently zoned Neighborhood Mixed Use with a recommended height limit of four stories. I believe this area is ripe for redevelopment and can sustain additional height and density. I will therefore be working with staff to get those recommended changes submitted by next month's deadline.

To learn more about this topic, you may watch last week's meeting here as well as go to the project page here

Finance Committee meeting Monday, July 17th, 4:30 pm

3. 78717 --  Approving the recommendations of the Community Services Committee regarding the allocation of City funds, for use beginning in 2024, for School-Age Child and Youth Development programs.  Bayview and Neighborhood House are both seeking funds for additional programming. There's no denying this an important need in our community. Engaging youth in meaningful ways is a prudent investment and is a vital component of our overall public health approach to violence prevention.

Economic Development Community meeting Wednesday, July 19th, 5:00 pm

1. 78846 Staff Presentation and Discussion Regarding Small Cap TIF Loan Program Attachments.

2. 77859 South Madison Staff Update: TID 51 and Land Banking Attachments.

Both these items speak to the city's ongoing commitment to South Madison. This was notably underscored in the discussions held at last week's Community Development Authority meeting about the $300 million redevelopment of the Triangle and the $200 million redevelopment of the South Park / West Badger Rd area

Speaking of the latter....

West Badger Road and South Park Street Concept Plan

The City of Madison will soon begin a process to develop the majority of the block at W Badger Road and S Park Street. The development area covers approximately 4 acres of city-owned property, including the former South Metro Transfer Point and existing Centro Hispano site.

Public meetings for this project will be held virtually on Wednesday, July 19 from Noon to 1:00 pm on Zoom and in-person on Wednesday, July 19 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Village on Park Atrium. The contents of both meetings will be the same and will include a brief staff presentation on background information, overview of the concepts, and the project timeline.  Additionally, the meetings provide opportunities for residents and property owners to ask questions and provide initial input on the development concepts.

That's all for now.

Take care and stay safe,
