Eastmorland Art Walk, Lansing Food Forest, Buckeye Update - D15 Update 4/27/20

Lansing
What a great day to dig in the ground. The cherry and pear trees and asparagus are planted in the Lansing Food Forest.

Last Week

  • Lansing Food Forest: Volunteers planted a good portion of the first bed this past weekend and the rest of the plantings should be going in over the next week. A huge thanks to Emily Steinwehe who has led the planning and permitting process with the city and to all the neighbors that have chipped in to help plant and maintain this new treasure in the neighborhood. Questions about the project can be sent to emily@emilyplants.com.

  • Atwood Cycletrack: Traffic Engineering installed the barrels on Atwood by Olbrich to provide dedicated space for people riding bikes on the popular Lake Loop. This gets bikes off the sidewalk so that everyone walking and biking can maintain proper physical distancing.

  • Visions Private Dancing Booths: The Alcohol License Review Committee denied the request from Visions to change their licensed premises to include private dancing booths. These booths were installed previously without getting approval from ALRC approval and with no building permit. The Common Council will vote to affirm this decision on May 5. You can watch a recording of the discussion at ALRC here.

  • On-Street Parking Restriction Suspension Extended: The current suspension of Residential Permit Only restrictions, 1- and 2-hour restrictions in non-metered areas, and Clean Streets-Clean Lakes restrictions has been extended to May 25. You can read more details here.

  • Dogs Allowed On-Leash in Most Madison Parks: In early 2020, Madison Common Council approved the revised dog ordinances (MGO 8.19  and 23.32 , File 59294) which took effect on Friday, March 13. Find the detailed changes here.

This Week

  • Buckeye Road: Work resumes on April 27 with Buckeye Rd. being closed from May 1 to May 15. Click here for more details.

  • Garver Path Borings: Contractors will be taking soil borings this week in order to complete the design work for the Garver Path and Starkweather Drive project planned for construction in 2021. Any questions about this work can be directed to cpetykowski@cityofmadison.com.

  • Woodman's Gas/Lube/Car Wash/Parking Lot: On Wednesday, the proposal to demolish the existing gas/lube/car wash and restaurant and construct a new gas/lube/car wash with parking lot improvements will be in front of the Urban Design Commission. Following UDC review, the project will head to the Plan Commission for final approval. You can see the UDC agenda here and detailed plans for the project here.

  • East Police District Garden: Captain Nelson is looking for some volunteers to help with weeding and TLC for the gardens at the East District building. You can read the details and find his contact info here.

  • Eastmorland Art Walk: With this year's Gallery Night cancelled, a few Eastmorland neighbors have organized an Eastmorland Art Walk for this upcoming weekend. The idea is simple: make some art and put it where it can be seen from the sidewalk for your neighbors to enjoy. Then head out and see what others have created. Fill out this form by April 30 to add your location to the Art Walk map! Please share with other neighbors, and remember to remain safe while viewing any art.
