
Final Alder Districts, Budget, ADUs - D15 Update 11/7/21

The Common Council adopted a new alder district map at last Tuesday's meeting. The new map will take effect on January 1st, 2022. The majority of current D15 residents will continue to reside in D15, but there will also be a number of changes:
- Those living to the east of Hwy 51 in the Hiestand Park and Burke Heights neighborhoods will move into D3 represented by Alder Lemmer.
- Those living in the Ridgewood neighborhood will move into D17 represented by Alder Halverson.
- Those living north of Hwy 30 in the Hawthorne, Carpenter-Ridgeway, and Truax neighborhoods will move into D12 represented by Alder Abbas.
- Those living in the southern half of the Glendale neighborhood previously in D16 will move into D15.
- Much of the SASY and Worthington Park neighborhoods will move from D6 into D15.
I will be working with the other impacted alders to help ensure a smooth transition so that we can all continue to represent our new districts effectively. Anyone interested in the background of the redistricting effort can find all the materials at the redistricting website.
Accessory Dwelling Units
The proposal that I have sponsored to make it easier to construct an ADU will be at Plan Commission on Monday for an informational presentation. You can find the actual proposal language as well as the staff memo and presentation here. You can read more about the proposal in this press release here. You can register to provide comment and get a link to watch the presentation here. I've already heard from a number of you on this proposal and welcome any thoughts or questions others have to share. The proposal will be back at Plan Commission at a later date for a recommendation.
2022 Budget at Common Council Tuesday-Thursday
Both the 2022 Executive Operating and Capital Budgets, as amended by the Finance Committee, will be considered and likely amended further by the Common Council on Nov. 9, 10, and possibly 11. On Nov. 9, public comment will be accepted on both budgets with Council consideration following all the public comment. If the budgets are approved on Nov. 10, the Nov. 11 meeting will be canceled. Gallery Night
Gallery Night is back this year on Friday with events across the city. ArtWorking on S. Stoughton Road is one venue located in D15 and there are a number of other venues nearby in the Worthington Park and SASY neighborhoods. You can find all the details here.
