Family Definition

On Monday, the Plan Commission will hear public comment and consider a proposal to update the "Family Definition" in our zoning code. The current family definition restricts renters from living with more than one unrelated adult in select neighborhoods in our city. The proposed change would standardize the number of unrelated adults that can share a housing unit to 5, which is the current standard in all other areas of the city.

The current zoning regulation disproportionately affects people of color and lower-income residents. These groups are more likely to be renters and more likely to need to share housing to afford rent.

You can find more details for this item including public comment and the staff report here and register in support or opposition to the proposal here.

Eastmorland Neighborhood Safe Streets Meeting

Streets in the Eastmorland Neighborhood have been identified for consideration of safety improvements and improving connections for walking and biking. Streets identified include Dempsey Rd (Capital City Trail to Milwaukee St), Walter St, and Dawes St. The first step is to hold a neighborhood meeting to discuss potential changes and hear more about traffic safety concerns. The City also has an online form to share concerns on traffic safety, pedestrian connections, and bicycle connections before the meeting. You can find the Online Feedback Form here and a link to register to attend the meeting on Wednesday at 6p here.
