Primary Election on Tuesday
For those that have not already voted early, the in-person nonpartisan primary election will be held on Tuesday. You can find voting information from the city clerk here. The primary election includes the Madison mayor's seat as well as a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
The District 15 city alder seat will be on the April ballot along with the winners from this week's primary (no alder primary for D15 residents).
You can find candidate responses to the League of Women Voters questions here and candidate answers to questions posed by several local non-profits including Madison Bikes, Madison is for People, and Madison Area Bus Advocates here.
Hudson, Miller, Willard, Center, Sommers & Davies, Dempsey Projects
Both of these D15 street reconstruction projects will be at the Board of Public Works on Wednesday for approval before coming to the Common Council on February 28.
You can find details including the proposed design for the SASY project here and Dempsey/Davies project here.
You can find meeting details and a link to register for public comment at the Board of Public Works meeting here.
Family Definition
Last Monday, the Plan Commission took up the proposed ordinance change to the "Family" definition in our zoning code. Anyone interested in this policy proposal should consider watching the discussion here. The entire thing is about 3 hours long, starting with a staff presentation (30 min), followed by public comment (65 min), and then finally questions of staff, debate, and action (75 min). The Plan Commission's recommendation to approve the ordinance change was unanimous and a motion to delay a decision failed for lack of a second.
The proposed ordinance was also referred to our Housing Strategy committee, so they will also take it up at their meeting on Thursday. You can find more details about that meeting here. The ordinance will be back in front of the Common Council for action on February 28.
I strongly support the recommendation of our Plan Commission and look forward to approving this important change when it's in front of council later this month.
Atwood Avenue Reconstruction Update
Work on Atwood Avenue between Fair Oaks and Cottage Grove Road is scheduled to begin this week. You can find all the details of the project and sign up for updates here. There will also be an open house meeting with more construction info next Monday at Olbrich Gardens (more info on the project site).
