Madison BRT Construction Update – October 24, 2023

Madison BRT Construction Update – October 24, 2023

"Work continues throughout the East Washington corridor, and at the two terminals Junction Road and Sun Prairie Park and Ride. Road and platform construction along Whitney Way and at University and Midvale are expected to be finished in the next few weeks.

Station platforms on East Washington through the isthmus are starting to take shape. Resurfacing on East Washington between the Capitol Square and Blair Street has been done, allowing us to take the next steps on the Blair Street station. Paterson, Baldwin, First, and Fourth now have completed platforms and crews are working on the ramps, pavement, and other flatwork around the platforms.

Further out on the east side, Anderson Street platforms are complete and eastbound East Wash platforms between Mendota Street and East Springs, and related roadwork, are wrapping up. Corresponding westbound stations will start in 2024. Several stations have not started yet and will not start until next year, such as Whitney – Mineral Point, Segoe, University Bay, and Milwaukee Street. In addition, several downtown and campus area stations will begin next year at Orchard Street, State Street, and the Capitol Square will begin in 2024.

Two station canopies have been put up at Eau Claire and High Point Station, but there will be a slight delay while materials and supplies come in. Within a month or so crews will continue installing supports and roofs on the platforms that are done.

Your patience and cooperation is appreciated as we start to wrap up our summer construction work and the weather starts to get colder. BRT work will continue through the winter, but traffic control and lane closures will either come to an end or be adjusted so that they work during the inevitable snow events. Each station location takes three to four months to complete, but factors ranging from inclement weather to supply issues can change these timelines. Construction, installation, and testing will continue through our planned launch in late 2024.

The safety of our crews and all roadway users is our top priority. Construction crews are working closely with the city to safely manage traffic and travel at each site with as little inconvenience as possible.

Please feel free to reach out to BRTconstruction@cityofmadison.com if you have any concerns or have ideas on what can be done better."
