Brief follow up after today's Board of Health for Madison and Dane County

posted

Hi,

This brief update is a follow up to my blog post from earlier today. I was hoping to be able to provide a full recap this evening but need to switch to time sensitive work related tasks.  I should have some time tomorrow afternoon for a fuller recap.

In the meantime here are some quick notes:

  • Today at the the Board of Public Health, they tabled the item until they could get more information. The January date for 2026 shows as being cancelled so I'm not sure if there is a plan to offer another January date, however I will follow up.
  • I learned at the meeting that not all of the Board members had read the agencies application and that application has not been made available for the public to review.
  • I learned at this meeting that there is not a built in process for community engagement before this kind of item is approved by the Board of Public Health.  I intend to invite Public Health, the Board of Public Health, County Supervisors who cover parts of District 17 -- Rick Rose and Tommy Rylander, the agency proposed to serve in this new capacity, public safety, and the City's Community Development Division to a meeting in the district to discuss the proposed harm reduction hub. Once I've confirmed the Board's next meeting date, I'll have a better idea about when to schedule this meeting.

Lastly, I have a meeting scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) with the agency's director.

I appreciate your patience as I work to get a fuller recap out tomorrow.
