  • WisDOT Extends Beltline Comment Period: Reflecting a high level of interest, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has extended the deadline for public comments to the end of January. WisDOT proposes a variety of improvements to the Beltline, including several in District 19. Adding additional lanes, updating intersections, re-constructing on and off ramps (weavings) and more street and bike path over/under passes are among the ideas. See my blog on the WisDOT PEL study in my November 23 blog. This is a state project, so comments go to the state not to the City of Madison. I am co-sponsoring a Common Council resolution urging WisDOT to exclude extra lanes from the project as well as interchange and weavings updates that would require destruction of homes and businesses.
  • Bordner Park Tree Removals: The Parks Division advises that there will be several tree removals at Bordner Park. Four Norway Maples are in serious decline along the east side of the tennis court, bordering the walking path.  Two are listed for removal, the other two will be heavily pruned to remove hazardous branches but may end up getting removed as well once the arborists get a closer look.  Removing the trees will remove the danger of dead branches falling on park users but also prevent the trees from falling and severely damaging the tennis court fence. New trees will be planted in future planting seasons.
  • District 19 issues at Common Council and Board of Public Works
    • University Research Park developer improvements: Common Council Item 45 (Legistar 91021) is for approval of an amendment to the public works agreement with University Research Park for a left turn lane from Whitney Way into Element Drive.
    • Sewer lining: Board of Public Works Item 17 (Legistar 91445) is for approval of sewer lining in multiple locations including District 19.
